Julien Guinand / Galerie Francoise Besson Two mountains - A massive environmental destruction generated by the impact of intensive forestry and mining operations is the object of human intervention to contain damage to communities. The accidentally artistic nature of the concrete containment structures (built by the JP authorities to stop landslides) makes you awed by the vastness and the (ir)rationality of the endeavour. This is a rather extraordinary work both in documentary, political and aesthetic terms. The price of prints is 950€ framed 1100€ -what is available on Artsy is more expensive. Hantje Katz has chosen to publish Guinand's work.
Aurore Bagarry /SitDown - this impressive work is taken from the series Roches which Bagarry started in 2016. There is no post production here, no colour alteration. It is a high fidelity rendition of a unique geological context captured with a large format camera. Here the value claim (beyond the obvious aesthetic one) is anchored on the subject (there is strong environmentalist concern), the long term nature of the project, the heavy research component needed to identify the locations, and the artist strong determination (both physical effort, perseverance, and attention to the detail are all needed for such a clever use of large format photography). Bagarry has published a book and her prices . Usually she proposes editions of 8 + 2AP. She prints on Fine Art Rag, aluminium mounted. Bagarry was one of the artists invited to present her work during the video recorded debate sessions at Paris Photo 2021.
