Baptiste Robichon / Galerie Paris Beijing - XXème Siècle B, 2021 - 178x121 Unique Chromogenic Print- With Robichon (1987 - FR), a Master of analogue colour printing, we contemplate a radical cognitive shift in the photographic process. There is no ordinary notion of subject in his work : the subject results from an experiment which seeks to materialise whatever can be “written with light and chemistry”. Robichon is a pioneer constantly moving between demonstration and investigation: the idealtype of the "second technology" artist according to Benjamin . In the first giant, unique piece, a rain of chemistry composes an abstract image where oranges and blues blend together inviting the eye to discover patterns and symmetries.
Another work of Robichon, this time produced with Fabrice Laroche, is an virtuoso exercise ‘on the fifth string’ in the realm of analogue printing. Robichon and Laroche start from an autochrome positive which is turned in a potential source of multiples through a complex negative/positive reproduction mechanism which entails contact printing and a good degree of aleatory results. The result contains out of focus areas and a rendition of the autochrome palette which seems re-elaborated through digital (RVB separation) filters. A full explanation of the process can be found at the Galerie Binome.
